Why are the prices of electronic devices sky-rocketing?

In the last two years, the global supply chains have been greatly disrupted by the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, which has wreaked havoc on nearly all aspects of the global supply chain. The disturbance is due to the impact Covid-19 had on the countries where most of the global manufacturing capacity sits. shut down factories, displaced supply containers, blocked in the wrong port.

This has caused an extensive shortage of supplies in many fields including electronics where devices like chips and semiconductors are in high demand.

It gets even worse, many supply chain strategists and analysts don’t expect relief from this shortage at least until 2023. The problem started because of an issue in the supply chain and only supply chain experts can come to the rescue.

So how crucial are supply chain professionals in maintaining our current lifestyle?

First, What is a supply chain?

A supply chain is a network between a company and its suppliers to produce and distribute a specific product to the final purchaser. This organization includes different activities, people, entities, information, and resources. The supply chain also represents the means it takes to get the product or service from its original state to the final customer.

There are two types of supply chains. A local supply chain, a network between a company and its regional suppliers and a global supply chain is a network that can range across numerous mainlands and nations for obtaining and providing labour and products.

Supply chain experts, a necessity for companies

The current crisis has made supply chain experts a decisive necessity for companies. Employers are increasingly looking to recruit graduates who can demonstrate that they have the high-level skills and abilities to succeed in global logistics management.

Whatever the industry, and whether operating globally or nationally, it’s more important than ever for businesses to manage their supply chains and ecosystems carefully in order to succeed. Companies, government departments, and international organisations cannot survive for long without rigorous, efficient and strategic management of supply chains and logistics.

Even more so the average income of a supply chain manager/strategist is an average of €65K/yr and a highest of €110k/yr, in this day and age individuals who are efficient in supply chain management are highly sought after.
