Women Rights day

In 1977, the International Women's Day was made official by the United Nations, inviting all the countries of the planet to celebrate this day in favor of women's rights. International Women's Day" is one of the 87 international days recognized or introduced by the UN. It is a day of demonstrations throughout the world: an opportunity to take stock of the situation of women in society and to demand more equal rights.

Today, we are celebrating the numerous contributions women made for humanity.

Here are some alumnae from our partner universities, who have proven that there’s nothing a woman can not do.

Helen Sharman

University of Sheffield

BSc Chemistry 1984, Hon DSc 2017

Scientist and astronaut

Helen Sharman made history when she became the first Briton to go into space in 1991. The Sheffield-born scientist spent eight days on the Mir Space Station investigating the effects of weightlessness on physical, chemical, and biological systems. Now, she is President of the Institute of Science & Technology (IST).

Zeina Almumalah

Coventry University

MSc in Engineering and Management

She pursued a career in construction based on her admiration for the grandeur of new building structures, right from concept to construct. She’s now the youngest manager at one of the largest construction and international building companies in the Middle East, BIC Contracting.

Fatmah Baothman

University of Huddersfield

Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering

The first woman in the Middle East to hold a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence.

She is now an assistant professor at King Abdulaziz University Faculty of Computing & Information Technology. Fatma Baothman also established the women's Department which is the foundation of the Computer Science College at King Abdulaziz University and became the first teaching assistant faculty member.
